Pietro Azzara
Experience built across business, technology and education
An entrepreneur in innovation for over 20 years, Pietro Azzara trained as an electronic engineer. After graduating, he began his professional career abroad, working in Spain, Portugal and the Czech Republic on international projects in the Information Technology sector.
In 2002 he returned to Italy and founded Azatec, a system integrator and cloud managed service provider, of which he is today the majority shareholder and whose Cloud AWS business unit he sold to Fastweb S.p.A. in December 2022.
From 2017 onwards he became deeply interested in the crypto and blockchain world, recognising its potential for businesses, digital finance and decentralised infrastructure. From this vision came Blockchain Italia.io, a software house, training company and consultancy specialising in blockchain solutions.
Within the Blockchain Italia ecosystem, several innovative projects took shape: Dedit.io, a blockchain-based digital notarisation platform, and Toknox, a tokenisation platform; Blockchain Forum Italia, Italy's first trade fair dedicated to the sector, launched in 2018; and early decentralised finance initiatives, including the Folks Finance project — conceived, designed and developed by Blockchain Italia, which became one of the most recognised DeFi projects in the Algorand ecosystem and subsequently CrossChain.
In subsequent years he held associative and institutional roles in organisations such as Italia4Blockchain, IBNO, INATBA, European Digital SME Alliance, Assintel and Open Innovation Italia, contributing to the spread of blockchain culture, the education of businesses and professionals, and the dialogue between technological innovation, markets and regulation.
In November 2025 he co-founded Varla Protocol — the lending and yield infrastructure that allows you to maximise your capital efficiency in prediction markets.
Since April 2026 he has been part of the “AI and Blockchain” working group, part of the Parliamentary Intergroup on "Digital Assets, Blockchain and Bitcoin".
